WSET launches 3 Minute Spirit School

The Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) has released a series of short introductory videos on a selection of the world’s top spirits categories.

The WSET has launched the first three videos in its new 3 Minute Spirit School series

The 3 Minute Spirit School films have been created in association with Difford’s Guide, and follow the “success” of the group’s 3 Minute Wine School series which has accumulated more than 350,000 views since its release.

Each video is presented by an industry expert and has been designed for new spirits drinkers and enthusiasts, whether they be consumers or working in the spirits industry or on-trade.

They cover topics including production, history, tasting and service and were created to increase awareness of the WSET’s spirits qualifications: the Level 1 Award in Spirits and the Level 2 Award in Spirits.

“Spirits qualifications are a growing part of WSET’s business,” said Ian Harris, chief executive. “This series of videos provides an introduction to spirits that is both entertaining and educational.

“We hope that through initiatives like these, alongside our qualifications, we will continue to help professionals and enthusiasts alike learn more about the spirits that they work with and love.”

The 3 Minute Spirit School series includes Whisky by Richard Paterson, master blender at Whyte & Mackay; Cognac by Joel Harrison, author of Distilled and WSET Spirits Educator; Rum by Maggie Campbell, head distiller and vice president at Privateer Rum; Gin by Will Lowe, distiller at The Cambridge Distillery and WSET Spirits Educator; Vodka by bartender Maria Johanssen; and Cocktails by drinks consultant Paul Graham.

Whisky, Cognac and Rum can now be viewed via the WSET website’s Knowledge Centre or YouTube channel.
