By Owen BellwoodAlmost three quarters of adults aged under 45 believe technology could improve their experiences in bars and restaurants, according to research from payment provider Wi5.
64% of drinkers don’t think bars and restaurants are taking advantage of the technology availableFollowing an online survey of UK adults, Wi5 released its Mobile Order & Pay 2020 report.
The report investigated the technology in use across the hospitality industry and found that 36% of under 45s are satisfied with the technology currently in use in bars and restaurants.
It also found that customers in restaurants and bars are increasingly on the lookout for “technology-driven experiences” and that 71% of adults polled believe technology could improve the on-trade experience.
However, 64% of guests polled said bars and restaurants are not currently making the most of the technology available to them.
According to Wi5, 58% of those polled said they would be inclined to order more on a visit to a bar, café or restaurant if it was easy to order on mobile.
As well as encouraging sales, the report found that 71% of customers that regularly use mobile ordering would be very likely to share a good dining experience with friends, compared to just 41% of those who don’t use it.
