SMWS toasts Tim Peake’s return to Earth

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) is celebrating British astronaut Tim Peake’s return to Earth with a commemorative bottling.

SMWS is toasting astronaut Tim Peake’s return to earth with a special bottling

Named ‘A toast to Tim Peake’s return’ with the Society-style bottle number 39.124, the 39-year-old single cask liquid is understood to be from Diageo’s Linkwood distillery.

The whisky is from the Society’s ‘Old & Dignified’ flavour profile, and has an “elegant and sophisticated” nose and a “silky mango mouthfeel” on the palate, according to the SMWS tasting panel.

“As the first British European Space Agency astronaut, we wanted to commemorate the return of Tim Peake by bottling a very special whisky,” said Helen Stewart, SMWS senior brand manager.

“This is the whisky that we think would make the perfect ‘welcome home’ dram.”

Peake, a former regular British Army Air Corps officer, was launched to the International Space Station, on 15 December 2015. He is due to return to earth on 18 June.

A Toast to Tim Peake’s return is limited to 96 70cl bottles and will be available to members (£176.70) and non-members (£353.40) from the SMWS website from 18 June.

Last month, SMWS marked Feis Ile with release 127.44, Cantina Mexicana.
