Selfridges not opening water-only bar

Selfridges has denied reports it is planning to open a water-only ‘cocktail bar’, claiming the new venue will serve alcoholic beverages.

Selfridges’ The Water Bar will serve alcoholic drinks as well as free filtered water

Following an initial report in The Sunday Times, news of Selfridges’ new water bar at its flagship store on Oxford Street, London, has garnered national media attention.

However, a spokesperson for the retailer has dispelled the rumours and claimed The Water Bar will serve an array of alcoholic beverages alongside free filtered water.

“The Water Bar concept at Selfridges will be offering free filtered water,” a statement from the group read. “As well as the purest line-up of water infusions, innovative cocktails, wines and spirits. The concept is due to launch later this year.”

In July last year, The Merchant’s Hotel in Belfast launched what is thought to be Ireland’s first “water menu” overseen by two dedicated “water butlers”.
