Puerto de Indias gin strengthens UK team

Spanish gin Puerto de Indias has hired four new business development managers to support the brand’s launch in the UK.

L-r: Steven Craig, Isabella Newman, Alice Sims, Nick Ord and Andres Lopez

The new appointments are Isabella Newman, Alice Sims, Steven Craig and Nick Ord.

Seville-based Puerto de Indias is investing £2 million (US$2.6m) in the UK this year as it launches its pink gin into the market.

The new team will join Andres Lopez, business development manager, who joined Puerto de Indias in 2016 as a key account manager based in Madrid, Spain. Lopez relocated to the UK to support the brand’s “rapid expansion”.

Newman will focus on the south of England and brings 12 years of experience managing cocktail bars and running consumer gin tastings to the role. She joins from Cellar Trends, where she worked as activation manager for a range of cocktail mixes, syrups and purées.

Focussing on London, Sims brings “extensive” experience and contacts gained from working in cocktail bars across the city and was trained under bartender Salvatore Calabrese.

Craig will join the Scotland team, visiting Scottish bars, restaurants, hotels and off-trade accounts. With more than 10 years of hospitality experience, Craig has also worked for three years as an account manager and brand ambassador in the drinks industry.

Ord will promote Puerto De Indias in the north of England. He brings more than 20 years’ experience to the role, having worked across 20 different countries for some of the biggest spirits, bar and hotel brands in the world.

Margaux Maupate, brand manager for Puerto de Indias, said: “Puerto de Indias has had an amazing response from the trade since launch.

“The Sevillian credentials and vibrant colour, coupled with the quality of the liquid make it an exciting addition to the UK gin scene.

“The new team is extremely passionate about the brand, and we can’t wait for them to start spreading the Puerto word ahead of the summer months.

“The response to the product has been phenomenal, and we are confident the new team will continue to raise awareness of Puerto de Indias taking the market by storm.”
