Fenjiu launches UK’s ‘first’ baijiu cocktail competition

As Asian spirits producers look to expand beyond their native markets, Cheng International and Fenjiu have launched the UK’s “first” baijiu cocktail competition.

Fenjiu Cocktail Competition is the UK’s “first” baijiu contest

Spirits distributor Cheng International and Fenjiu baijiu are inviting bartenders to enter the competition for the chance to win an all-expenses-paid trip to China to visit the Fenjiu distillery. Furthermore, the winner will claim the title of Fenjiu ambassador for one year.

The theme of the competition is ‘the marriage of Chinese tradition and western innovation’. Bartenders must complete an online questionnaire to enter the competition.

The final 10 competitors will then attend a Fenjiu masterclass and create their cocktail recipe using Fenjiu 10 Year Old.

They will then prepare their drinks in front of a panel of judges on 24 June at The Connaught Bar in London. Judges will include bartender Brian Silva and Matt Harrison of Speciality Brands.

Zarina Guan, chairman of Cheng International, said: “Fenjiu offers a fantastic opportunity for UK mixologists and bartenders to discover the amazing array of aromas and flavours of a premium, light-style baijiu and our aim is to inspire innovative cocktail recipes, which will give UK consumers exciting new drinking experiences.

“Our 10-year-old Fenjiu, which we have selected for our inaugural Fenjiu cocktail competition, displays attractive notes of white flower, orange blossom, jasmine, spice, honey, fruit and herb, presenting competitors with an exciting range of possibilities for original and imaginative cocktail recipes to impress the judges.”
