Southern creates new artisanal unit in Florida

Southern Wine & Spirits of Florida – part of the largest US drinks distribution company – has created a new division to exclusively focus on “artisanal” wine and spirits.

Southern Wine & Spirits of America has extended its “artisanal” focus to Florida

Master Sommelier Laura DePasquale has been recruited as general manager of The Artisanal Fine Wine & Spirits division having previously served as Southern Wine & Spirits of Florida’s director of fine wine strategy.

DePasquale was tasked with launching the artisanal-focused division this year. She will report to Gene Sullivan, executive vice president, general manager of Southern Wine & Spirits of Florida.

“The Artisanal division is a new and exciting concept in wholesale for Southern in the market,” said Sullivan.

“Like Southern’s Artisanal Group in California, we will be dedicated to small wineries, artisanal spirits, as well as new trends and brand development – combining a smaller, lighter approach to the market with educational events and consultative selling.”

The new division will operate in the new Southern Wine & Spirits of Wynwood space in Miami’s Wynwood Art District, with access to classroom facilities, fine wine storage, and space for wine tastings and special events.

In January this year, family-run distributors Southern Wine & Spirits of America and Glazer’s signed an agreement to merge their businesses and form Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits – now the largest wine and spirits distribution firm in North America.

Bacardi moved the majority of its North American distribution contracts to the new firm.
