TD Artisan Spirits appoint David Ballew COO

TD Artisan Spirits – the joint venture recently founded by Terlato Artisan Spirits and Distell USA – has recruited David Ballew as chief operating officer.

TD Artisan Spirits has appointed David Barlew COO

Ballew, who has worked in the drinks industry for more than 30 years, joins the firm from Glazer’s Inc where he was senior vice president of sales for the Diageo Moët Hennessy portfolio.

TD Artisan Spirits was created last November when Bill Terlato, president and CEO of Terlato Wine Group, agreed to merge its spirits division with Distell’s in the US.

“David is a solid industry veteran,” said Bill Terlato, president and CEO of Terlato Wine Group. “He understands the luxury tier from a 360-degree perspective – sales, marketing, distribution and operations – and he has proven himself a successful leader who knows how to generate results.

“We’re excited to have him lead our team to grow TD Artisan Spirits into a powerhouse in luxury craft spirits.”

Ballew will work alongside David Lane, president and COO of Terlato Wines, where he will be responsible for driving sales, marketing and operations of the TD Artisan Spirits portfolio across the US.

TD Artisan Spirits features 19 brands originating from nine countries – including Amarula Cream Liqueur, Angostura Rum and Amaro, Langley’s No. 8 Gin and Tobermory Scotch Whisky – and has a marketing and sales team of 21 people.

“This is a great next step for me,” said Ballew. “Building a robust luxury spirits business for a company like Terlato that has a decades-long track record of success in the luxury wine industry is an exciting prospect.

“Already, the TD Artisan Spirits portfolio is impressive with the best in class products in each category. I can’t wait to roll up my sleeves and get started.”
