Copper & Kings creates brandy-based aged gin

Kentucky-based Copper & Kings American Brandy Co. has launched a limited edition apple-brandy based, barrel-aged gin called Alley Cat Gin.

Brandy-based Alley Cat Gin has been aged in oak barrels that once held Bourbon whiskey

Following on from the launch of the distillery’s juniper barrel-aged Stray Cat Gin last year, Alley Cat Gin is created using Copper & King’s apple brandy as its base and is matured for 22 months in a Bourbon barrel.

The variant is double distilled in a Vendome copper pot still with traditional gin botanicals, and without the additional use of grain neutral spirit (GNS).

Said to have a “piney, juniper and citrus-forward” aroma and a flavour of vanilla, fennel, cinnamon and orange blossom, the gin is also without chill-filtration and post-distillation flavouring.

“We like to do different things with our gin; no chill-filtration, an unusual apple-brandy base, just a double-distillation, no compounding and no GNS re-distillation.” said Copper & Kings founder Joe Heron.

“We like slightly oily, viscous barrel aged expressions, the Old Tom style profile, and Douglas Miller sets the tone with his beautiful illustrations, so we are going to keep picking from the same litter.”

Just 750 bottles of Alley Cat Gin (49% abv) are available from the Louisville-based distillery’s store and a small selection of bars and liquor stores at an RRP of US$40.00.
