Spencerfield Spirit adds Seaside Gin to core range

Following a successful limited editon run of 2,500 bottles, Spencerfield Spirit Company has made Seaside Gin a permanent addition to the Edinburgh Gin portfolio.

Seaside Gin is now a permanent addition to the Edinburgh Gin portfolio

The expression – which is made with seaweed, scurvy grass and ground ivy – was first released in June 2015, and has now been made a permanent fixture thanks to “soaring customer demand”.

Seaside Gin will now join Edinburgh Gin Original and Navy Strength Cannonball as part of the distiller’s core portfolio, and will return with an initial run of 6,000 700ml bottles.

Seaside Gin is the result of a a collaboration between Spencerfield Spirit Company and Heriot-Watt University, and was created between four postgraduate MSc students and head distiller David Wilkinson.

As part of the project, masters students were tasked with scouring the east coast in search of botanicals that would encapsulate a taste of the Scottish shoreline.

Edinburgh Gin’s co-founder, Alex Nicol, said: “The expansion of our core range is testament to customer appetite for distinctly different gins that blend art and science.

“It’s a delight to see Seaside Gin added to our permanent roster and that there is demand for a gin that pioneers the use of unusual native botanicals such as this.”

Signature serves include a classic G&T or seaside martini, while recommended garnishes include marsh samphire, sea purslane or a slice of fresh lemon.

The range is presented in new custom-made bottles, crafted in Milan by Bruni Glass. The bottles are ergonomically designed for bartenders, and feature etched lettering inspired by the art deco era.

Seaside Gin has an RRP of £35, and will retail in both the on- and off- trade across the UK.
