The selection has been named ‘The Johnstone Collection’ in homage to Mr Johnstone, the man who collected the bottlings, and will go under the hammer at a ‘Burns Night Bonanza’ auction at Hansons Auctioneers, Derbyshire.

Assembled over the course of 40 years, the collection features single malt whiskies from almost every distillery in Scotland.

It is said to contain “old and rare” offerings, some aged up to 50 years, and many distilled in the 1960s and 70s.

The collection has been split into 100 lots of varying size, with the guide price for the whole lot at around £8,000.

A statement on Hansons Auctioneers‘ website reads: “This is a great opportunity to sample a tipple from your year of birth or to commemorate a special occasion; or for the connoisseur, to add to your collection at a fraction of the cost of buying full bottles.

“Of course there are also several examples of full, 700ml bottles in the auction. From Macallan and Springbank to blended whisky and Connoisseur Collection and Signatory malts, a wide range will be available to suit all tastes and budgets.”
