Burger King applies for alcohol licence in the UK

Fast food chain Burger King has applied for a seven-day licence to sell alcohol in branches across the UK.

Burger King may become the first fast food chain to sell alcohol in the UK

If successful, it will become the first fast food chain to sell alcohol in the UK, and plans to sell plastic bottles of American beer to be consumed on the premises.

So far the chain has requested the licenses in four branches in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Blackpool, Hull and Bury St Edmunds, and if successful, will be able to sell alcohol from 10am to 11pm seven days a week.

If licenses are granted the move could be rolled out at their other UK restaurants, of which there are more than 654 nationwide.

A spokeswoman for Burger King told The Mirror: “It’s very successful everywhere else so we’re just catching up with the rest of the world really.”

Burger King already sells alcohol in some parts of the US, Singapore, Venezuela and Spain in its Whopper Bars.
