Africa’s ‘first’ bar show to take place in Cape Town
By Kristiane SherryThe “first ever comprehensive bar show” in Africa is set to come to Cape Town this month, alongside the first RumFest to take place outside the UK.
South Africa’s spirits fans will be able to sample and attend seminarsMUDL Live Liquid Lifestyle will be held from 29-31 October at The Cape Town International Convention Centre.
International brands will exhibit alongside local and craft players, with industry professionals on hand to advise visitors.
Participants can also join the first international RumFest event, with owner Ian Burrell heading up the Rum Zone.
Demonstration areas, seminars, a Cocktail Theatre area and live music will all add to the atmosphere.
The show also hopes to offer a “strong trade element”, with local business owners, brand custodians and venue managers encouraged to network. Trade seminars will cover topics including increasing profitability, menu development and brand education.
Tickets for MUDL Live are priced at R150 (about US$11) and are available from Computicket.
In May this year South Africa’s government announced a proposal to raise the drinking age to 21.
