First London dry gin with asparagus to launch

Portobello Road Gin is to launch a new limited edition Directors’ Cut bottling, said to be the first ever London dry gin made with British asparagus.

Portobello Road Gin The Directors’ Cut contains hand-foraged asparagus

Portobello Road Gin The Directors’ Cut contains British asparagus hand-foraged by the brand’s founders as one of its botanicals. The asparagus has been harvested by director Paul Lane in collaboration with producer Will Aveling in Cambridgeshire.

Gentian root, juniper berries, cassia bark, nutmeg, lemon and orange peel also feature in the bottling.

The concept of the Directors’ Cut edition was conceived by the four Directors of Portobello Road Gin: Ged Feltham, Paul Lane, Jake Burger and Tom Coates.

Portobello Road Gin was first produced at The Ginstitute on Portobello Road in London.

“We’ve been experimenting with the more unusual botanicals for years and have dreamed of hand-picking our own botanicals and using them to bring a special edition gin to the market,” said Lane

“We’ve played around with the botanical of British Asparagus at the Ginstitute for a couple of years, where gin fans can come up with their own creation but this is the first time we’ve worked with a producer directly to select the produce and create a gin for sale.

“This is not a gin for everybody but those who like it love it.”
