Ryanair bans duty free alcohol on flights to Ibiza

Ryanair has banned all duty free alcohol on board flights from the UK to Ibiza in a bid to “improve flying conditions” for customers and cabin crew.

Any customers showing “signs of anti-social behaviour” will be denied travel

Any alcohol bought in departures will now have to be put in the hold so passengers cannot access it during the flight, and customers’ bags will be checked at departure gates.
In addition, any customers showing “signs of anti-social behaviour” – including attempting to conceal alcohol – will be denied travel without a refund or compensation.

A spokesperson told Metro: “Having consulted with our customers and the airports, customers flying from the UK to Ibiza will no longer be permitted to bring duty free alcohol on board the aircraft.

“Those who have purchased duty free alcohol will be asked to either place their purchases in their cabin baggage and into the hold at the boarding gate, or leave their purchases behind.

“The comfort and safety of our customers and crew is our number one priority.”

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said it backed any attempts to reduce drink-related problems on flights.
Earlier this year the authority revealed that more than 270 incidents of disruptive “alcohol-fuelled” behaviour have occurred on flights since 2014.

A statement by the CAA read: “It is actually a specific criminal offence to be drunk on board an aircraft, and also to refuse to comply with instructions from the captain.

“We support UK airlines’ efforts to deal with disruptive passengers to ensure the safety of all those on board, and welcome criminal prosecutions where appropriate.”
Earlier this year, Ryanair banned the consumption of duty free alcohol on flights from Glasgow to Ibiza due to disruption caused by “unruly” passengers.
