Bacardi buys super-premium Banks Rum
By Melita KielyInternational spirits producer Bacardi has acquired super-premium rum brand Banks for an undisclosed sum.
Rum brand Banks has been bought by Bacardi for an undisclosed amountThe Banks range – which includes expressions such as Banks 5-Island Rum, Banks 7 Golden Age Blend and several limited editions – joins Bacardi’s existing portfolio of super-premium rums.
Banks is currently sold in on-trade venues around the world, including the US, Germany, the UK, France, Japan, Portugal, Russia, Switzerland, Denmark and Singapore.
The brand was first was founded by master blender Arnaud de Trabuc who was inspired by 18th century British explorer and botanist Sir Joseph Banks.
Rums used in the Banks collection hail from Trinidad, Jamaica, Guyana, Barbados, Panama, Guatemala and Java.
Terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.
Earlier this year, Bacardi extended the reach of its super-premium white sipping rum Gran Reserva Maestro de Ron to the US, complete with a new bottle design.
The drinks giant also targeted the shot market with the launch of Bacardi Carta Fuego, a new spiced rum “spirit drink”, made with cinnamon.
