Seattle distiller sees future in grape vodka
By Becky PaskinGlass Distillery in Seattle has launched its flagship product Glass Vodka, a spirit made using grapes grown in the Pacific Northwest.
Glass Distillery, founded in 2011, is launching the vodka in conjunction with the opening of a tasting room in Seattle’s SODO district that opened to the public this week.
The vodka, which is distilled in a German 17.5ft tall copper still has a complex, slightly sweet and smooth taste.
Glass Distillery owners Ian G.J. MacNeil and Adrian Higginbotham, launched the vodka in an attempt to showcase the best local glass artisans and wine producers in the region.
MacNeil said he believed the Pacific Northwest is one of the best winemaking regions in the world, and is therefore a driving force behind Glass Vodka.
“We believe there’s a huge market for a premium, grape-based vodka both here in Washington and across the country,” he said. “Many people who drink vodka often experience that familiar ‘burn’ unless it’s served as a mixed drink. We designed Glass Vodka to be elegant yet approachable and easy to drink on its own, as well as being an anchor spirit to a favorite cocktail.”
As yet Glass Vodka is available at the distillery, the tasting room and bars and retail outlets around Seattle.
