Grant’s creates Stand Fast Scotch from 100-year old recipe
By Becky PaskinWilliam Grant has created a rare whisky expression using a recipe discovered in the oldest whisky book in the family’s archives, Grant’s Stand Fast – 100 years to the day it was first produced.
Brian Kinsman, Grant’s master blender, has faithfully recreated 100 bottles of the whisky using a recipe written by William Grant himself on 11 June 1912.
However Grant’s Stand Fast won’t be sold to the public, but will instead be added to the family archive, alongside the recipe book, for ‘future generations’.
Kinsman said that up until now, the instructions on how to make Grant’s have been passed on verbally between generations of distillers.
“As a master blender we learn how to make whisky by knowledge handed down in person from one master blender to the next,” he said. “It’s why it takes around a decade of training to take on the title.
“The new Grant’s Stand Fast is special and is very close to what William Grant created back in 1912. Today, Grant’s is a highly awarded whisky by the experts, this shows that what William created over 100 years ago was a great tasting whisky.”
