Bar inspired by Chinese villain Fu Manchu to open

The team from London’s Jam Tree pubs is to open a new late night cocktail bar inspired by fictional Chinese criminal Fu Manchu.

Criminal mastermind Fu Manchu was created by Sax Rohmer in an early 20th century novel series

The bar, hidden under old railway arches in Clapham North, is currently undergoing refurbishment and will launch in early May.

Moustachioed mastermind Fu Manchu was created by Sax Rohmer in an early 20th century novel series, and later appeared in films played by actors such as Christopher Lee and Peter Sellers.

Described as a “Victorian opium den with a modern, graphic edge”, the bar will offer cocktails inspired by the criminal work of its cult villain namesake and his associates.

Drinks on the menu will feature Chinese tea infusions, Asian spices and exotic flavours, with fitting names such as The Kiss Of Death and Mancho’s Mind Control.

In addition, the bar will have an extensive dim sum menu, which arrives served in wicker baskets.
