App offers free cocktails for women only
By Annie HayesNew cocktail app Drinki gives women the opportunity to claim a free cocktail every day, with the aim of attracting more men into bars.
The app allows users to claim the cocktail at any participating bar in return for an automatic check-in on FacebookThe gender-specific app allows the user to claim the cocktail at any participating bar in return for an automatic check-in on Facebook, prompting their presence at the bar to appear in their friends’ feeds.
Establishments in London, Manchester and Liverpool – including Buddha Bar, JuJu, Lola Lo, and Holborn Grind – are already in on the action, and the app plans to expand across the UK.
Later this year, the company plans to launch Drinko – offering men the chance to claim a beer from participating bars using the same template.
According to the team at Drinki, the ladies’ app was launched first because “females attract males to a bar, rarely the other way around”. Women are also “more likely to be drinking in groups”, and “more active on social media”.
The brand said: “The decision to launch Drinki first was simply a case of ‘ladies first’ and in phasing the launch of both apps we are able to be far more targeted in everything we do, which really benefits our users.
“When Drinko arrives, the two apps will work in harmony across an expanding network of bars around the UK.”
Although the idea of a free post-work tipple is a welcome one, many would argue that the idea of masculine and feminine drinks are now a thing of the past.
