Glenrothes releases £5,500 Extraordinary Cask
By Annie HayesBerry Bros & Rudd has launched the third expression in its Extraordinary Cask Collection series – The Glenrothes Single Cask 1968 priced at £5,500.
The Glenrothes Single Cask 1968 is the third expression in the Extraordinary Cask Collection seriesThe 1968 is latest bottling from the Extraordinary Cask Collection comprising a small reserve of old, rare casks specially chosen for bottling.
Ronnie Cox, brands heritage director, said: “This cask follows our initial Extraordinary releases: a single cask from 1970 and a single cask from 1969, both of which have all sold out.
The latest bottling, a venerable cask from 1968, in keeping with The Glenrothes’ philosophy to bottle at peak maturity, is now ready to be unveiled.”
The new release has been bottled from the contents of Cask #13507 – a second-fill hogshead cask, filled on 19 November 1968 – and only 145 bottles are available.
Presented in hand-blown lead crystal, each individual bottle features an exclusive plague engraved with the bottle number and year of distillation, while the head of the stopper is made from the wood of the cask in which the whisky matured.
The label has been hand-signed by the malt master Gordon Motion, and each bottle comes with its own Scottish oak display plinth and a book about The Glenrothes, detailing its history and the whisky.
Bottled at 41.9% abv, the 1968 release will initially be available exclusively at DFS at Singapore Changi Airport from February, before a global rollout in select domestic outlets.
