Bowmore goes to the Darkest side
By Marinel FitzSimonsIslay’s Bowmore is celebrating its 15 yr old “Darkest” expression with an interactive theatrical experience and tasting, held on 25 and 26 April in Liverpool Street, London.
The event, called “Magic happens on the Darkest Nights”, will relay the story and characteristics of Bowmore’s 15 yr old “Darkest” through a series of sensorial activities designed to explore the various facets of ‘darkness’ and learn more about Bowmore, Islay and the links between the two.
The brand has partnered with a range of experts from different fields for the event, from chocolate makers to stargazers to experiential theatre gurus.
As part of this exploration, guests will be blindfolded during some “chapters” of the event, heightening the impact of their other senses when tasting the Bowmore.
Stargazing experts from Kielder Forest Star Camp Observatory will provide a “tour” of the Islay night sky through a 3D projection, while chocolatier Paul Young will offer guests a bespoke Bowmore Darkness hot chocolate.
Finally guests will enjoy a tasting hosted by a distillery expert, paired with canapés from Hidden Dining, all of this to the tune of sea shanties and whisky / Islay tales throughout the evening.
Bowmore Darkness has been aged in American Bourbon casks, followed by a stint in Oloroso sherry casks, and is described as having “warmth and depth in abundance, with classic Bowmore smokiness, dark chocolate and raisin aromas.”
