By Amy HopkinsScotch whisky blender and bottler Hunter Laing has invested a “seven figure sum” in a new maturation warehouse, reports claim.
Hunter Laing, run by Stewart Laing (centre) and his two sons Andrew (left) and Scott (right) has invested in a new ageing warehouseAccording to Herald Scotland, the 35,000 square feet warehouse based in East Kilbride will be able to house 15,000 casks, considerably increasing its current 2000 capacity warehouse in Carron Place.
The warehouse will enable Hunter Laing to store its entire stock under one roof for the first time since the group’s whiskies are currently housed in nearly 90 different locations.
“In the future it’s all going to be to hand. Instead of waiting four, five, six weeks, they shouldn’t [have to] wait more than two days, which will be a delight for all of us,” Stewart Laing, managing director of Hunter Laing told Herald Scotland.
“We will be masters of our own destiny in terms of having access to our own whiskies.”
Hunter Laing was created following the demerger of Douglas Laing & Sons, when Stewart Laing split from the family business after 40 years working alongside his brother Fred to set up Hunter Laing & Co in partnership with his two sons, Andrew and Scott.
Douglas Laing & Co was meanwhile taken control of by Fred Laing, with both companies splitting the original assets.
Hunter Laing is preparing to move into the warehouse early next year.
