Scotch distillery stocks defibrilators to support golfer

A Scotch whisky distillery is to begin stocking defibrillators to support a campaign by one of the UK’s top golfers.

Tomatin Distillery is now better equipped to deal with life-threatening cardiac arrests

Tomatin Distillery has purchased three defibrillators – used to restart a heart following a cardiac arrest – in response to a campaign started by former Ryder Cup captain Bernard Gallacher.

The leading golfer’s life was saved last autumn when fast-thinking staff at a function in Aberdeen used the machine on Gallacher after he fell ill.

After spending several days at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, he made a full recovery and launched a campaign in December to encourage more venues to keep a defibrillator on-site.

Graham Eunson, general manager at Tomatin Distillery, told the Press and Journal the distillery had purchased three machines – two to be kept on-site, and one that has been donated to the Carrbridge Golf Club: “The main driver behind the purchase of the defibrillators was our connection with Bernard Gallacher’s campaign and learning from hearing him talk about it.”

Tomatin Distillery attracts more than 20,000 visitors to the site every year.
