Scotch helps Scottish retail sales rise to £2bn

Four Scotch whisky brands were the top selling Scottish food and drinks brands, new analysis has shownLooking into grocery purchases across the UK, the data – provided by Kantar Worldpanel – showed the popularity of Scotch whiskies The Famous Grouse, Bell’s Whisky, Whyte & Mackay and Grant’s Whisky has helped retail sales value rise by more than 36% since 2007.
“Business is booming for Scottish food and drink, not just here in Scotland but across these islands and around the world,” commented Richard Lochhead, Scotland’s Food Minister.
“Our global reputation for top quality food and drink with unrivalled provenance is driving up sales of iconic Scottish brands and products at home and further afield – as demonstrated by the strong and increasing demand for Scottish food and drink brands in England and Wales.”
The data comes after Scotland’s food and drink industry smashed its export target six years ahead of schedule, and set a new goal of £7.1 billion by 2017.
