Scottish comedian Frankie Boyle is to star in a new film about a recovering alcoholic who attempts to curb his addiction by working in a whisky distillery.

Frankie Boyle is to star in a new film about an alcoholic who confronts his addiction by working in a whisky distillery

The film, entitled Gasping, is to be directed by noted Scottish comedy director and actor Greg Hemphill.

According to The Scotsman, the film will see stand-up comedian Boyle, who previously starred in Mock the Week, take on the role of a businessman who begins working at a Scotch whisky distillery in a bid to confront and conquer his alcohol addiction.

The film is also said to mirror the real-life addiction struggles of 41-year-old Boyle, who became teetotal in his twenties.

Gasping, made by Glasgow-based Hopscotch Films, was filmed around Perth, Glasgow and Dumfries earlier this year.

It has been funded by arts agency Creative Scotland and BBC Scotland, which will also broadcast the film.
