Swizzle Masters Rum Summer Punch results

El Castillo by Ivica Mišić is the winner of the Rum Summer Punch Wenneker Swizzle Masters heatUsing a blend of Botran 15 Year Old rum, Wenneker Cherry Brandy, Wenneker Crème de Bananes, fresh lime juice, Grenadine syrup and tropical fruit juice, Mišić impressed judges with his drink, El Castillo.
Judging this month’s round were Daisy Jones, associate publisher of The Spirits Business, Mike Sweetman, UKBG Chairman, and Craig Maitland, general manager of Drake & Morgan’s The Folly, which hosted this month’s competition.
Lending his talents behind the bar to mix the 10 shortlisted drinks was Dawid Samulczyk, duty manager and mixologist at The Folly.
“There was a fantastic play on flavours from the applicants,” commented Maitland. “We certainly saw some great skill and imagination.”
Second place was awarded to new Swizzle Masters entrant, Alon Arrigo for his drink titled Tea Time Punch, while third place was given to another first time entrant, Razvan Buescu, for Little Ema.
Mišić’s recipe will now be entered into the semi-finals, which will take place in October. From there, five finalists will be chosen to go through to the grand final in November, where one bartender will be crowned Swizzle Master 2014 and win a prize of £1,000.
The next round of The Wenneker Swizzle Masters is Irish Whiskey Americana featuring Jameson Irish whiskey. Judges will be looking for traditional-style recipes that celebrate early 20th century Americana, with a touch of Irish spirit.

The winners from the Wenneker Swizzle Masters Rum Summer Punch round:
1st: El Castillo by Ivica Mišić
40ml Botran 15YO, 40ml Wenneker Cherry Brandy, 30ml Wenneker Crème de Bananes, 20ml fresh lime juice, 2 splashes Grenadine syrup, 100ml tropical fruit juice, a slice of melon, cocktail cherries, fresh mint leaves.
Method: Add all ingredients except the tropical fruit juice into a shaker with ice. Shake hard for 10-15 seconds. Strain into a chilled glass and add the tropical fruit juice. Garnish with a slice of melon, a cocktail cherry and fresh mint.
2nd: Tea Time Punch by Alon Arrigo
60ml Botran 15YO, 30ml Wenneker Coconut, 30ml Wenneker Chocolate, 30ml Wenneker Crème de Menthe, 2 teaspoons of desiccated coconut, exotic fruits to garnish
Method: put all ingredients into a glass with cubed ice and stir gently. Top with crushed ice and garnish with exotic fruits.
3rd: Little Ema by Razvan Buescu
40ml Botran 15YO, 20ml Wenneker Watermelon, 30ml lime juice, 80ml pear juice, 2 dashes of Underberg, a slice of lime and fresh mint leaves
Method: Add all ingredients together and shake. Strain into a chilled coupetter. Garnish with a slice of lime and fresh mint.
