Fake ‘King Robert II’ whisky seized in Saudi

Officials in Saudi Arabia have moved forward with their crackdown on counterfeit alcohol by busting a workshop making fake “King Robert II” whisky.

Saudi Arabian officials have busted a warehouse producing counterfeit bottles of “King Robert II” whisky

According to Al Arabiya News, police arrested 15 Indian expatriates and five Saudi nationals during a raid in the central Al-Kharj governorate.

It is thought that the counterfeit whisky was being packaged in boxes with English labels and promoted as imported products through the black markets.

Legitimate bottles of King Robert II whisky are produced by Ian Macleod Distillers, which also own the Glengoyne and Tamdhu Scotch whisky brands.

The authorities also seized an unspecified amount of hashish.

In May this year, Saudi Arabian officials also seized almost 17,000 bottles of vodka that were being smuggled in vehicles carrying fruit.

All alcohol is banned from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a predominantly Muslim state, however counterfeit production is widely reported.
