Ex-Diageo boss appointed Whyte & Mackay CEO
By Amy HopkinsScotch whisky producer Whyte & Mackay has hired Diageo’s ex-managing director for Scotland Bryan Donaghey as its new CEO.
It has come to light over the past few days that Donaghey quite his role at DiageoDonaghey, who had recently moved from the position of Europe supply director to strategy supply director, took up his position with Whyte & Mackay on Monday (16 September).
This comes only days after Donaghey “severed his employment” with Diageo, following the company overhaul in the UK. He had previously been managing director of Diageo for Scotland until the announcement of the shake-up in March and held posts within the Scotch Whisky Association (SWA).
His role change at Diageo came as plans to restructure the company were put in motion, cutting 80 jobs within its Scottish manufacturing operations as part of a wider attempt to save £60 million a year.
Under the scheme, Diageo’s operations in Scotland merged into an international supply centre based in Edinburgh.
A spokesperson for Glasgow-based Whyte & Mackay said: “Bryan Donaghey has joined Whyte & Mackay as CEO. Bryan has a wealth of experience within the scotch whisky industry, having previously worked with Diageo and as a leading figure within the Scotch Whisky Association.”
Earlier this year, Diageo bought a major stake in Whyte & Mackay’s parent company United Spirits.
