Glengoyne releases smaller, more affordable bottle sizes
By Becky PaskinIan Macleod Distillers has released 200ml bottlings of its core Glengoyne range of single malts in the UK as increasing numbers of consumers look for more affordable whisky options.
Glengoyne’s new 200ml bottle formats offer a more affordable option for consumersHighland distillery Glengoyne has bottled its 10, 15 and 18-year-old single malts in 200ml sizes to appeal to both less affluent consumers, as well as those looking for more affordable gifting options.
While the three variants are available in specialist retailers from July, Ian Macleod plans to follow the range up with a 200ml version of its 21-year-old Glengoyne in time for Christmas.
Ian Weir, marketing director for Ian Macleod, said the new packaging size would take advantage of a growing trend in the UK.
“200ml bottlings are growing in popularity as more and more consumers look for smaller variants,” he said. “They are well-priced, great gifts and a fantastic introductory size to the range. We are pleased to be able to offer our consumers an alternative to the full size 700ml.”
Earlier this month it was revealed that the UK’s alcohol duty escalator had pushed prices of spirits up to record levels, forcing brands to address the issue of affordability by offering a wider range of bottle sizes at differing price points.
A report conducted by First Drinks discovered that one in four spirit sales in convenience stores are 350ml formats, and are driving market growth. Those consumers buying smaller bottle sizes are proving themselves loyal to the format, with 72% of 350ml shoppers only buying that size.
The 200ml Glengoyne bottlings are now available in the UK at a RRP of £15.99 for the 10-year-old, £17.99 for the 15-year-old and £26.99 for the 18-year-old.
