July Swizzle Master champion revealed

The winner of July heat of The Wenneker Swizzle Masters, The Spirits Business’ monthly virtual cocktail competition, has been revealed as Romanian bartender Mihai Fetcu

Leonde by Mihai Fetcu for the Wenneker Swizzle Masters cocktail competition

Working with the theme of Irish Whiskey Summer Sizzler, Fetcu impressed the panel of judges with his refreshing and well-balanced long drink Leonde.

A blend of Jameson Irish whiskey, Wenneker Ginger Liqueur, lime juice and cranberry juice, the drink was deemed by judges to be “very well balanced”… bringing together not only the whiskey and liqueur but summer in the glass”.

In second place was William Cassin from Trailer Happiness in London with his fizz creation Slainte Swizzle, while Charlie Boy’s punch-style drink The Thirst Quencher came in third.

Fetcu, from Bistro de l’Arte in Brasov, Romania and regular entrant to the Wenneker Swizzle Masters, now qualifies for the competition’s semi-final, in which the winning drinks from throughout the year are mixed once more and revaluated head-to-head.

From the semi-finals, just five drinks will be chosen to go through to the competition’s grand final in December, where just one bartender will be crowned the 2013 Wenneker Swizzle Master and win an all-expenses-paid trip to either London or Holland, home of Wenneker Liqueurs.

If you fancy a chance at winning the grand prize, next month’s heat is now open for entries. With the theme of ‘Absinthe – The Green Fairy’, our judges will be looking for well-balanced, innovative and thoughtfully presented cocktails featuring La Fee absinthe as the base spirit, and at least a dash of Wenneker Liqueurs.

For more information and to enter, visit www.swizzlemasters.com. To see all the cocktails entered in the Irish Whiskey Summer Sizzler round, head to facebook.com/swizzlemasters. All entries must be received by 15 August.
