Campari America chief takes over as DISCUS chairman

Gerard Ruvo, chairman and CEO of Campari America, has succeeded Patron Spirits’ John McDonnell as chairman of the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (DISCUS).

Ruvo, who has over 35 years’ experience in the alcoholic drinks industry, began his term at DISCUS on 30 June 2013 following the announcement of McDonnell’s retirement from the drinks industry in May.

The Campari America CEO, who joined the group (formerly Skyy Spirits) in 1998, has also previously held high level sales positions at Diageo, The Paddington Corporation, Pepsi Wine and Spirits and Gallo.

“The Distilled Spirits Council is honored to have such an experienced and insightful industry leader as Gerry Ruvo as our new chairman,” said DISCUS president Peter H. Cressy. “He has had a long record of commercial innovation and a strong commitment to social responsibility throughout his career, and brings those values to the deliberations of the DISCUS Board.”

Ruvo is also known for his charitable work with the Ameican Cancer Society, Boy Scouts of America and alcohol industry charity the Sky Ranch Foundation.

McDonnell, who served more than eight years with Patron Spirits as COO, announced his retirement from the company on 31 May. He was replaced by Dave Wilson, formerly of Brandmuscle.
