The Whisky Shop, the UK’s largest whisky retail specialist, has announced its acquisition of retailer Loch Fyne Whiskies, writes Amy Hopkins.

The Whisky Shop has acquired Loch Fyne Whiskies

The purchase of the specialist whisky retailer for an undisclosed sum follows the opening of The Whisky Shop’s new flagship store in Piccadilly, London.

Richard Joynson, owner of Loch Fyne Whiskies, said: “I am very proud to have been able to grow Loch Fyne Whiskies into the established business it is today.

“It was important to me that the right buyer should be found and I am confident that The Whisky Shop is that.”

Loch Fyne Whiskies, which was established by Joynson in 1993 and is based in Inveraray near the Scottish highlands, offers several hundred single malts as well as a collection of own-label products.

Andrew Torrance, managing director of The Whisky Shop, said while the group’s strategic focus was directed towards major population centres, he had no hesitation in making room for “this little gem” in their portfolio.

He added: “Loch Fyne Whiskies has made a significant contribution to the specialist premium whisky sector – offering a unique portfolio of blends and single malts to a loyal customer base.

“We are delighted to have acquired such an interesting business and feel that it is a valuable addition to The Whisky Shop brand.”

The Whisky Shop has 21 stores across the UK and sells more than £12m of product annually.
