WhistlePig offloads New York warehouse for $17m

Whiskey maker WhistlePig has sold its Moriah warehousing facility in New York to a Delaware-based investor group called Zags 26.

The facility includes seven 14,000-square-foot warehouses used for ageing whiskey

Vermont-based WhistlePig Whiskey allegedly sold the facility for US$17 million.

The warehousing facility is located at the Moriah Business Park in Mineville, near the New York-Vermont state line.

The whiskey company has operated at the site since 2017 under subsidiary Moriah Ventures.

WhistlePig’s CEO, Alex Roberts, confirmed the sale to The Spirits Business but did not disclose the exact sum paid.

He said in the statement: “The transaction allows WhistlePig to free up capital that will be reinvested in the continued growth of the brand.”

Robert also noted that the sale of the facility “does not impact day-to-day operations or production.”

The facility was bought by Zags 26, a Delaware-registered business founded on 1 January 2026. According to a 24 February filing this year with the Florida Department of State, the company is linked to Essential Properties Realty Trust – located in Princeton, New Jersey – and its CEO and president, Peter M Mavoides.

The facility includes seven 14,000-square-foot barrel warehouses and a 14,000-square-foot bottling plant. It is believed to be capable of housing more than 200,000 barrels at a time.

According to records from the New York State Liquor Authority, Moriah Ventures renewed its distilling license on 19 May 2026, effective from 1 June. The license is set to expire on 31 May 2029, and is still in WhistlePig’s name.

The sale comes two years after the town of Moriah and the Adirondack Park reported the presence of ‘whiskey fungus’, which feeds on ethanol vapours and creates black staining on buildings and surfaces.

In February 2026, Charles Gibb left WhistlePig after just eight months as CEO. He was succeeded by Roberts, who joined the company in December 2017 as chief financial officer.

Last year, the WhistlePig Vault visitor experience opened in Louisville, Kentucky.

In 2020, the company sold a minority stake to LVMH’s wine and spirits arm, Moët Hennessy.
