Alma Luna in Shanghai, from the co-founder of Union Trading Company, will be inspired by the romance and spirit of Old Havana in Cuba.

Its cocktail programme will span both Cuban classics and house originals, with the space taking on the feeling of a ‘bygone era reimagined through a contemporary lens’.

The name Alma Luma is said to mean the ‘soul of the moon’.

Lu explained: “It’s the romance of Havana nights, the warmth of music, and the feeling of being fully present with the people around you. Alma Luna felt like the perfect way to express that – something soft, atmospheric, and full of life.”

The bar is also described as ‘not a nightclub, nor a conventional cocktail bar’, but a place that ‘offers a different pace that encourages connection, conversation and a sense of presence’.

Alma Luna is slated to open next month (July) and will be located on Xiangyang North Rd in Shanghai’s Jing’an district.

It marks Lu’s third venue in China, following the original Union Trade Company in Shanghai and its sister bar in Suzhou.
