Infinite delights: Glenmorangie The Infinita 18YO
Glenmorangie Highland Single Malt has been at the forefront of Scotch innovation for more than 180 years, continuing its legacy with reimagined classics and releases that tap into bona fide star charisma.
Inspired by the question “What if?”, the Whisky Creation Team at Glenmorangie has developed some of the most adventurous single malt expressions available today. Since 1995, Dr Bill Lumsden MBE has led the team, taking a daring approach to creations including limited editions, such as the A Tale of series, and the reimagining of the flagship expression, Glenmorangie Original, as a 12-year-old.
The latest collaboration from Glenmorangie pairs Lumsden’s creative mind with acclaimed actor Harrison Ford, the nonchalant star of the brand’s Once Upon a Time in Scotland campaign. The co-created eponymous release, Glenmorangie Harrison Ford Limited Edition, combines classic Bourbon cask-aged Glenmorangie with a selection of rare parcels finished in toasted Portuguese red wine casks. The resulting single malt is what Ford describes in his no-frills trademark manner as “very nice”.
While the limited expression has already sold out, whisky enthusiasts shouldn’t be discouraged. The distillery’s portfolio offers a wide range of standout expressions, such as the delicious The Infinita 18 Years Old.
Father’s Day treat
As the distillery’s flagship luxury single malt, The Infinita was created by Lumsden as the quintessential Glenmorangie. The expression builds on the success of a whisky of the same age, introduced by Glenmorangie more than three decades ago, and refined by Lumsden.
In its latest reincarnation, Glenmorangie’s 18-year-old single malt rests in hand-selected American oak Bourbon casks for the first 15 years. For the remaining three years, a portion is transferred into oloroso Sherry casks before being reunited to create an infinitely complex single malt.
“Glenmorangie Infinita encapsulates every element of our house style in perfect harmony and is our most deliciously complex creation,” Lumsden explains. “It seamlessly unites subtle Sherry cask hints and woody notes from its great age with our distillery’s signature soft and fruity character.
“The result is a beautifully balanced single malt so multilayered, it’s as if you are drinking a different whisky every time.
“There are aromas of honey, vanilla, narcissus, and jasmine, and flavours of figs, dates, nuts, gentle spices, and more. The Infinita is deliciousness without end.”
Sitting at 43% ABV, The Infinita’s honeyed, golden-hued liquid is encased in a vibrant blue box with luxurious line work depicting an infinity symbol, a nod to the whisky’s limitless flavours. The interior is draped in the tantalising orange of Glenmorangie’s signature colour.
