Hedonism wins first UK listing of Coutanseaux Cognac

Hedonism Wines has become the first UK retailer to list Coutanseaux Cognac, whose range includes XO and XXO expressions.

Established in 1767 by Louis Coutanseaux, Maison Coutanseaux Aîné was a former royal court supplier and is now being revived as a luxury Grande Champagne Cognac brand.

Its revival is being led by the Frerejean Taittinger family. The family’s ties to Coutanseaux can be traced back to the early 20th century when Pierre Taittinger was at the helm.

In the UK, Coutanseaux is being distributed by Republic Drinks.

As the first UK retailer to stock Coutanseaux Cognac, Hedonism Wines will also have access to some of the brand’s historic cuvées, 19th-century bottlings and special collaborations.

Coutanseaux Cognac XO sits at 40% ABV and is priced at £200 (US$272) per 700ml bottle.

The XO is made from eaux-de-vie that was aged for a minimum of 15 years. Tasting notes include fresh orchard fruits and gentle spice, leading to richness.

Coutanseaux Cognac XXO also clocks in at 40% ABV, but is priced at £500 (US$680) per 700ml.

The XXO was blended from a selection of eaux-de-vie that had been aged for at least 25 years.

The Cognac begins with notes of oak and polished wood before revealing toasted spice, roasted nuances and ‘warming depth’.

The texture is said to be ‘refined and beautifully balanced’.

Both Cognacs will also be available in five-litre bottles.
