Angostura sweetens portfolio with new syrups
By Lauren BowesBitters and rum producer Angostura has entered the premium cocktail syrup market with two products: a demerara sugar syrup and a spicy honey syrup.

Angostura Bitters dates to 1824, with the brand celebrating its 200th anniversary in 2024.
It now hopes to expand beyond bitters into a ‘broader role’ in cocktail creation through its new syrups.
The brand said the expansion reflects growing demand for high-quality cocktail ingredients from both bartenders and home cocktail enthusiasts.
“For more than 200 years, Angostura has helped shape cocktail culture around the world,” said CEO Ian Forbes. “These syrups extend that legacy by bringing the brand’s flavour expertise and commitment to quality into a new cocktail ingredient category.”
Angostura Demerara Sugar Syrup is a dark, full-bodied syrup layered with notes of ‘toasted molasses, warm caramel, and a hint of smoke’. Designed to complement aged spirits such as Bourbon, rye whiskey, and dark rum, it enhances cocktails such as the Old Fashioned.
The brand’s Spicy Honey Syrup, meanwhile, offers ‘a bold balance of smooth honey sweetness and lingering chilli heat’. The product is ‘ideal’ for Tequila, mezcal, or whiskey cocktails, such as the Spicy Margarita.
“These new syrups represent a natural evolution for Angostura,” added Michael Fritts, brand manager for Mizkan America. “Today’s bartenders and home cocktail enthusiasts want high-quality ingredients that simplify preparation without sacrificing flavour. These premium syrups make it easier to craft and elevate cocktails with the quality and taste people trust from Angostura.”
The new syrups are available at select US retailers, priced at US$11.99 for a 375ml bottle.
Earlier this year, Angostura refreshed the design of its rum range and created a new ready-to-drink cocktail called Cubata.
