Tim Whitefield, head distiller and co-founder of Tanglin Gin, has been inducted into The Gin Guild as the first warden rectifier based in Singapore.

The recognition represents the first time a distiller from a Singapore-founded brand has been inducted into The Gin Guild, a London-based global community dedicated to the craft and heritage of gin distillation.

Upon his induction, Whitefield took the traditional oath to ‘protect, promote, and invigorate the distillation of gin’. This mission is said to align with Tanglin Gin’s eight-year journey of redefining Singapore’s cocktail scene.

“I designed all our gins to be consumed in three ways: neat without burn for a smooth finish, in a Negroni to test if the botanicals can stand up to vermouth and Campari, and finally, as a Martini, the classic test you must pass,” said Whitefield.

“It is an honour to represent the Singaporean craft scene on this stage. This appointment is a testament to how far Tanglin Gin has come since we started in 2018.”

Whitefield, who describes Tanglin’s spirits as “unexpected, adventurous, and exploratory,” brings a strong technical background to his new role as The Gin Guild’s warden rectifier.

After transitioning from a career in architecture, he established Singapore’s ‘first’ craft gin distillery in 2018, which is located in the Tanglin district.
