RNDC to exit Oregon and Washington

Republic National Distributing Company (RNDC) has entered into a non-binding agreement to sell its Oregon and Washington operations to Columbia Distributing.

RNDC and Columbia Distributing signed a letter of intent (LOI) for the sale of certain wine and spirits distribution rights in Oregon and Washington. They have also agreed an arrangement in Alaska to boost Columbia Distributing’s presence in the Pacific Northwest region.

Chris Steffanci, CEO of Columbia Distributing, said: “This LOI allows us to continue expanding our total beverage distribution model with the right strategic spirit and wine partners that complement our growth model. It’s rooted in our people and our brands – and that will continue to be our focus as we move forward.”

The transition to Columbia Distributing aims to support long-term continuity for suppliers and customers, while expanding the company’s operational capabilities and US footprint.

Steffanci said the firm’s goal is to “create more opportunities for the brands we represent and the customers we serve”.

Marc Sachs, president and CEO of RNDC, added: “Columbia Distributing brings a well-established route to market and total beverage approach. We’re confident in their ability to serve these markets at a high level and are committed to working closely with their team to support a seamless process.”

Founded in 1935, Columbia Distributing serves more than 24,000 retail customers across the entirety of Oregon and Washington, and operates 15 facilities.

The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.

The deal is the latest made by RNDC as it continues to trim its US presence. Last month, Reyes Beverage Group agreed to take on five more additional US states from RNDC, bringing the total to 11.

It followed RNDC’s exit from California last summer.

Reports have also indicated that RNDC has agreed to sell its operations in more than a dozen US control states to Martignetti Companies, which claims to be the leading alcohol distributor in New England.

The Spirits Business has contacted RNDC and Martignetti for comment regarding their potential deal.
