Scottish golfer tempts fans to switch from Scotch to Bourbon

Scottish professional golfer Robert ‘Bob’ MacIntyre is encouraging drinkers to swap Scotch for Bourbon in his latest campaign for Elijah Craig.

The campaign celebrates International Whiskey Day, which takes place on Friday 27 March.

MacIntyre, who serves as Elijah Craig’s brand ambassador, is seen in a clip encouraging Scotch fans to try Bourbon as their whisky pour, instead of his native Scotch.

The golfer notes he grew up drinking Scotch in the clip, but says he’s spent a lot of time in the States lately and has started to notice something: “You Americans take your whiskey pretty seriously.”

He then invites Scotch fans to try their preferred whisky pours with Elijah Craig instead.

“On the course or off, I relish friendly competition, so I couldn’t resist challenging Scotch drinkers to take a chance on American Bourbon,” MacIntyre said of the campaign.

“I’ve done it, and while I’ll always be loyal to Scotch, I’ve enjoyed broadening my whisky horizons with Elijah Craig and opening my senses to something wonderful and different.”

The clip with MacIntyre will go live on Elijah Craig’s Instagram at 10am EST this Friday for International Whiskey Day.

The first 100 fans to comment on how they enjoy their whiskey of choice in place of Scotch will win a US$40 gift card to go towards their next pour, whether that be a ‘cheers’ or ‘Sláinte’.

MacIntyre is currently ranked 11 in the official world golf ranking.

According to Elijah Craig, his favourite whiskey is the brand’s Small Batch Bourbon and the golfer thinks ‘other Scotch fans will love it too’.

Another Scotch swap Elijag Craig recommends is its 15-year-old Single Barrel Bourbon, which was released last week and has an ABV of 54%. The Bourbon’s ‘complex and robust’ flavours are said to appeal to Scotch fans.

Along with the MacIntyre partnership, the Heaven Hill-owned brand’s golf ties include roles as the official Bourbon of both the Ryder Cup and the PGA Tour.

Last year, the brand tried out fragrances with the release of a Bourbon-inspired cologne: Elijah Craig Char No. 3.
