Salcombe Distilling sets sights on tripling business

English gin producer Salcombe Distilling Co is aiming to triple the size of its business over the next five years, with 2025 sales up by double digits.

Devon-based Salcombe Distilling Co reported 10% growth last year compared to 2024, ‘significantly outperforming’ the wider drinks sector.

Salcombe Distilling, which also produces rum and alcohol-free ‘spirits’, said its growth last year was driven by ‘disciplined brand positioning’, expansion into new markets and strategic deals.

Salcombe’s on-trade wholesale revenue was up by a quarter.

Meanwhile, sales in the travel retail channel soared by 40% last year with listings in more than 26 duty free stores across 16 UK airports and over 10 cruise ships and ferries.

Angus Lugsdin, who co-founded Salcombe Distilling Co with Howard Davies, described the channel as a “natural fit” for the business.

He continued: “We were born on the waterfront, so partnering with leading cruise, ferry and travel operators allows us to bring that coastal story to travellers in an authentic and meaningful way.”

The brand’s range includes the flagship Start Point Gin, the Mediterranean-inspired Rosé Sainte Marie gin, and Four Seas gin, alongside alcohol-free product New London Light and Salcombe Rum.

In the US, Salcombe Gin is distributed across multiple states, while New London Light is available nationwide via Amazon.

Davies explained: “With 78% of no-and-low consumers also drinking alcohol, the complementary dynamic between Salcombe Gin and New London Light is driving incremental growth across both categories. We see them as working hand in hand rather than competing.”

The company has also expanded to Asia, including a recent launch at Hong Kong Yacht Club, with the business eyeing expansion into other coastal cities where there is ‘strong’ demand for luxury British goods.

Salcombe has also moved into a smaller, sustainable format with 50ml aluminium bottles, which have secured listings with Virgin Wines, P&O Cruises and Great Western Railway (GWR).

Lugsdin added: “Our ambition is clear, to become the world’s number-one coastal luxury spirits brand. We will continue to grow thoughtfully, protect our premium positioning and expand internationally across both alcoholic and non-alcoholic categories.”
