Gran Malo Tamarindo makes its European debut following its success in Latin America and the US

The spicy shot will be available through AliasSmith’s distribution channels in bars, clubs, and retail across Europe.

Co-founded by content creator Luisito Comunica, Gran Malo Tamarindo launched in 2021.

The spirit is created by blending Tequila blanco with macerated Mexican chillies and natural tamarind flavour, inspired by the nation’s traditional tamarind-and-chilli candies.

The result is a tangy, sweet, and spicy shot bottled at 30% ABV and designed for precopeo, the Mexican pre-party ritual.

Gran Malo is best served ice cold, and can be enjoyed in the bottle cap, which serves as a shot glass.

Since its debut, the brand has positioned itself as the leading spicy tamarind Tequila in its home market, and has reportedly become one of the top 10 best-selling food and beverage items on Amazon Mexico.

Gran Malo has also expanded its presence throughout Latin America and entered the US market, launching in Southern California in 2024. The Tequila shot is now available in California, Texas, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, and Colorado.

The brand’s rapid growth is said to be largely due to its strong connections within digital culture. Comunica, who boasts a combined total of 128 million followers across various social platforms, is recognised as Mexico’s ‘most-subscribed’ individual YouTube creator.

Gran Malo already has a presence in Europe, having previously launched in Spain through Torres.

By partnering with AliasSmith, the brand aims to expand its reach across the continent, with plans for additional country launches throughout the year.

Gabriel Zarzosa, marketing manager at AliasSmith, said: “Europe is ready for Gran Malo. The flavoured shot category is evolving fast, and Gran Malo brings something completely distinct – a culturally authentic product with a built-in fanbase and a serve that is simple, visual and immediately compelling for both trade and consumer.”
