El Supremo Rum lands in UK
Paraguayan rum El Supremo has officially launched in the UK, offering a unique spirit that combines indigenous tradition with modern luxury.
Unlike agricole rum, Caña Paraguaya is made from 100% pure sugarcane juice, which is slowly reduced over an open fire for nine hours to produce a rich miel de caña sugarcane honey. This labour-intensive method is said to intensify aroma and create a unique depth and elegance.
El Supremo has been influenced by the philosophy of ‘Ñande Reko’, which translates to ‘our way of being.’ This principle, rooted in the Guaraní culture, emphasises patience, balance, and respect for nature.
At the heart of the philosophy is Incienso Marrón, a native wood celebrated by the Guaraní for centuries. The ancestral knowledge surrounding the practice is referred to as ‘The Secret of the Guaraní.’
El Supremo is matured in two casks: Paraguayan Incienso Marrón and French oak, and comes in four distinct expressions: five-, eight, 12-, and 18-year-old.
Now, for the first time, El Supremo is offering its Caña Paraguaya-style rum to British consumers.
Filippo Maria Olivi, CEO of El Supremo Rum, commented on the launch: “Launching El Supremo in the UK is deeply personal to me and is the realisation of a dream that began many years ago, when, after long days working in the fields with vaqueros, sipping El Supremo rum, and relaxing as the sun set. I realised that my mission would be to share the best Paraguayan rum with the rest of the world.
“The UK rum scene has deep roots and is one of the most sophisticated in the world. We know spirits enthusiasts here appreciate authenticity, and El Supremo offers something truly different, a rum shaped by terroir, Incienso Marrón wood, fire, and five centuries of heritage.
“It is a legacy passed down by the Guaraní, a philosophy El Supremo Rum honours and preserves to this day.”
All four expressions are now available in the UK via Gerry’s Wine & Spirits, Rum Shop UK, and Not On The High Street.
In addition to the UK, El Supremo rums are available in more than 20 countries across Europe and North America.
Last year, the brand debuted in Italy in partnership with Rinaldi 1957.
