The Spirits Embassy debuts rare whisky collection

The Imperious Single Cask bottlings from Huntly-based The Spirits Embassy are “veritable time capsules renowned for their unique flavour profile.”
The collection debuts with eight expressions, all bottled at cask strength after more than 30 years of maturation in ex-Bourbon casks.
Four bottlings hail from Speyside, with the first being Aberlour 1990. The 30-year-old whisky is offered at 44.4% ABV in a 750ml bottle. The release is limited to 121 bottles, each retailing for £1,350 (US$1,841).
This is followed by a 30-year-old Benrinnes 1992, which is limited to 183 bottles. Priced at £1,170 (US$1,596) for a 700ml bottle, the single malt is bottled at 54.6% ABV.
From Glentauches, the collection includes a 1992 31-year-old whisky limited to 200 bottles at 57.2% ABV. The expression retails for £1,170 (US$1,596).
The last from Speyside, Miltonduff 1990, has also been matured for 30 years. Bottled at 55.5% ABV, the expression is limited to 202 bottles and priced at £1,242 (US$1,694).
The only Islay whisky in the collection was distilled in 1991 at Bunnahabhain Distillery. The 30-year-old single malt is bottled at 50.8% ABV, limited to 160 bottles, and retails for £1,170 (US$1,596).
Limited to 208 bottles, Jura 1991 is bottled at 47.3% ABV and retails for £1,170 (US$1,596).
Representing the Isle of Mull, Ledaig 1993 from the Tobermory Distillery has been aged for 30 years, bottled at 45.5% ABV, and is priced at £1,170 (US$1,596).
The only single grain whisky in The Imperious Whisky Reserve series, Strathclyde 1989, was aged 31 years, bottled at 50.7% ABV, and limited to 144 bottles. It retails for £1,350 (US$1,841).
Karina Elias, spirits expert for Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch, was invited to a special tasting and commented: “I loved these amazing, beautifully aged whiskies. The Bunnahabhain and Glentauchers really stood out for me as very elegant, silky and smooth.”
All eight expressions are now available on the retailer’s website, along with Elias’ tasting notes.
