Sir Edmond Gin shares peek behind the brand

Behind every great spirit is a maker whose skill shapes its character. For Sir Edmond Gin, that maker is Herman Jansen, one of the Netherlands’ oldest independent distillers and the partner responsible for bringing Sir Edmond’s vision to life.

Founded in 1777, Herman Jansen has earned a reputation for technical precision, botanical craftsmanship and a longstanding dedication to distilling excellence. With nearly 250 years of heritage, the family-owned distillery has successfully adapted to changing consumer tastes while remaining committed to innovation.

This balance aligns seamlessly with Sir Edmond Gin’s modern interpretation of premium gin.

Sir Edmond Gin is renowned for its bourbon vanilla infusion, a natural extract sourced from La Réunion. This infusion delivers a warm, layered complexity that is uncommon in the gin category.

While the vanilla is Sir Edmond’s signature element, the gin’s foundation – its distillate, botanical composition and technical structure – stems directly from Herman Jansen’s mastery.

Herman Jansen produces Sir Edmond Gin at its facility in Schiedam, the historic heart of Dutch distilling, where tradition meets state-of-the-art spirits production.

The distillery uses high-grade neutral grain spirit, distilled to exceptional purity, allowing the botanicals to express themselves cleanly and harmoniously. This clarity in the base spirit enables the bourbon vanilla to shine without overpowering the juniper backbone or other botanicals.

The process begins with carefully selected botanicals, including juniper, citrus peels and soft spices that complement the vanilla’s aromatic profile. Herman Jansen oversees the maceration, distillation and extraction processes, ensuring consistency, sensory balance and stability across international batches.

Instead of relying on artificial flavouring, Sir Edmond’s profile is developed through natural infusion and botanical distillation, an approach that Herman Jansen championed long before flavoured gins became mainstream. This technical restraint preserves Sir Edmond’s premium appeal: aromatic, refined and accessible, with a depth designed for sipping and mixing alike.

“Working with Herman Jansen gives us real peace of mind,” says Marlieke Otto, brand manager at Sir Edmond Gin. “We know the quality is in the best hands. Their experience allows us to focus on growing the brand and refining our flavour, while they ensure every batch lives up to the standard we’ve set for Sir Edmond.”

As Sir Edmond Gin expands its international distribution, the production standards upheld by Herman Jansen ensure a stable sensory identity. This consistency allows global trade partners to confidently activate local markets through tastings, retail promotions, or hospitality-driven rituals.

Sir Edmond Gin has also announced that the brand is seeking strategic investors to support its next phase of international growth.
