The Irish whiskey brand joined the Charter Brands portfolio last year, with the company being responsible for introducing Dublin’s Own to a global audience.

In less than a year, Dublin’s Own has experienced success in Poland, Ukraine, the UK, Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Canada.

Last month, the whiskey partnered with Hanos to launch in the Netherlands and Belgium.

Following Dublin’s Own’s debut in Portugal this month, the brand is also set to enter four more markets in the coming weeks.

Tayla Wilson, account manager at Charter Brands, said: “Entering the Portuguese market with Dublin’s Own comes at a time when Irish whiskey continues to grow in both the on‑trade and off‑trade.

“Our partnership with Viriathus Drinks gives the brand the right foundation and distribution expertise to build sustainable results. With its distinctive quality and identity, Dublin’s Own is positioned not just to compete but to earn a meaningful foothold in the Irish whiskey category.”

The Dublin Whiskey Distillery Company (DWD), which owns Dublin’s Own Irish Whiskey, was originally established in 1872 but closed down after the Second World War.

DWD was relaunched in 2014, with plans to drive its international expansion through the Dublin’s Own Irish Whiskey brand.

Welcoming the whiskey brand, César Coutinho, business unit manager at Viritathus Drinks, said: “Dublin’s Own is the first Irish whiskey to join the Viriathus Drinks portfolio. It is a category we approached carefully, taking time to identify the right brand that could combine quality, identity and genuine growth potential in the Portuguese market.

“When we tasted Dublin’s Own and assessed the brand’s image, consistency and story, the decision became very clear. It was the right choice to lead our entry into Irish whiskey and to become our reference brand within the category.

“The Portuguese market is showing growing interest in Irish whiskey, both in the on-trade and the off-trade, creating a solid opportunity to build a sustainable presence and long-term relevance. Our partnership with the Dublin’s Own team is built on a shared vision of brand development, market proximity and structured growth in Portugal.”
