The partnership between Bruxo and Álvarez Brands is said to combine tradition, culture and modernity. The two companies plan to introduce mezcal to new consumers in Spain.

Maja Scheffer, head of operations at Álvarez Brands, said: “At Álvarez Brands, we are proud to continue building partnerships with value-driven brands like Bruxo, bringing the richness and modernity of Mexican culture beyond expectations and creating unique experiences in Spain.”

Álvarez Brands focuses on brand development by observing the urban environment. The company strives to understand consumer preferences, cultural contexts and innovative ways to share and enjoy beverages.

With similar principles, Bruxo produces its mezcals by cultivating a direct connection to Mexico’s mountainous regions. The team walks the land and collaborates with master mezcaleros who honour nature and traditional artisanal processes.

Bruxo offers six expressions in Spain: Bruxo X, a blend of espadín and barril agaves; No. 1, which is made from 100% espadín agave; No. 2, a pechuga mezcal infused with maguey breast, made from espadín and barril agaves; No. 3, crafted from barril agave; No. 4, a blend of various agaves; and No. 5, made from wild tobalá agave.

All expressions will serve as the foundation for Álvarez Brands to develop the project in Spain, emphasising both sensory profiles and the cultural context of mezcal within Mexican tradition.

Santiago Barreiro, co-founder of Bruxo Mezcal, said: “We’re very excited about this new stage. Álvarez has the ability to help us share mezcal culture in Spain.

“In Mexico, mezcal accompanies the most important moments of life: it is toasted at births and present in farewell rituals. It is a distillate deeply tied to our identity.”

The collaboration was facilitated by Stockholm-based AliasSmith, which has supported the brand’s growth in the European market for the past 13 years.
