Proof 8 teams up with Cockayne Systems

Blockchain-backed distillery and warehouse management platform Proof 8 has formed a strategic partnership with DPS Group’s Cockayne Systems, which specialises in cask-filling solutions.

Cockayne Systems provides cask filling, disgorging, and calibration services for the whisky industry.

The collaboration with Proof 8 is said to create a seamless integration between Cockayne’s physical cask-filling systems and the blockchain-backed digital distillery management platform.

It also demonstrates Proof  8’s commitment to providing practical, integrated solutions that address real-world production challenges.

The partnership enables an efficient operational workflow, allowing real-time data collected during cask filling to flow directly into Proof 8’s digital platform. As a result, manual data entry is eliminated, human error is reduced, and new levels of operational efficiency and traceability are achieved.

Stuart Maxwell, chief operating officer at Proof  8, said: “This partnership represents a new operational framework for distilleries where the moment of cask filling becomes part of a real-time digital record. It not only simplifies compliance reporting further down the line but also improves traceability across the whole supply chain, now connecting every stage of production.

“Our two systems together provide one connected workflow, connecting the physical aspects of distilling with the digital, to form one tamper-proof, accurate source of truth about a cask.”

By integrating Cockayne’s cask and IBC filling systems with the Proof 8 platform, distilleries can automate a process that has traditionally been fragmented and often relied on duplicated manual records.

The data gathered during cask filling – such as volume, ABV, and other essential production metrics – becomes part of each cask’s verified online identity, known as a digital deed. This data is recorded from the first day of production and is crucial for securely tracking the provenance, location, and ownership of every cask.

Murray Blyth, client relationship director of DPS Group, believes the partnership will be helpful to distilleries already using or considering the company’s system as it offers a “frictionless route into digital transformation for their entire operation”.

He added: “By aligning our precision fill systems with Proof 8’s platform, we’re helping distilleries remove the duplication that’s often involved in recording key production data at the time of filling.

“The benefits are clear for our customers. They’ll save time, reduce the risk of human error, and ultimately ensure that all fill data is accurately recorded. Crucially, they will have to fill data digitally available to them in real time, right where and when they need it on the Proof 8 platform.

“By combining these filling records with the output from disgorging operations, customers are finally able to easily determine accurate cask-by-cask losses, quantifying the angel’s share.”

Last year, Proof 8 shared how the English producer Lancaster Spirits Co has implemented the distillery and warehouse management platform into its operations.
