Glenlivet Small Batch Collection makes comeback

Chivas Brothers-owned The Glenlivet has brought back its Small Batch Collection with new flavour profiles for each whisky.

The single malt collection’s return has the same aged statements as its inaugural offering – a 17-year-old, a 19-year-old and a 20-year-old – but with new flavour profiles developed by The Glenlivet cask master Kevin Balmforth and his team.

Balmforth, who took over as Chivas Brother’s master blender following Sandy Hyslop’s retirement, said: “The Glenlivet Small Batch Collection is a celebration of discovery, inviting whisky appreciators and collectors to explore the extraordinary spectrum of flavours that can be achieved through the meticulous cask combination process.

“The 17-year-old opens with bright apple and citrus notes that develop into a sweet, floral complexity. The 19-year-old brings rich dark fruits and spices, culminating in a sweet, aromatic finish and finally, the 20-year-old delivers luscious orchard fruits and warming spices, creating an incredibly syrupy and fruity experience.

“Together, this collection offers a masterful progression of flavour, allowing specific notes to shine while retaining the inherent character of The Glenlivet.”

Each whisky is bottled at its cask strength and non-chilled-filtered. They are named after the flavour profile imparted by their cask maturation, or cask combination.

The Glenlivet 17 Years Old Wildflower Honey is exclusively matured in first-fill American oak. It retails for RRP €154 (US$179) with 9,900 bottles available.

The Glenlivet 19 Years Old Indulgent Chocolate combines whiskies aged in first-fill American oak, first-fill Sherry and second-fill ex-Scotch barrels. It retails for €220 (US$256), with 3,936 bottles available.

Lastly, The Glenlivet 20 Years Old Orchard Fruitiness is a blend of first-fill American oak, second-fill ex-Scotch, and second-fill American oak hogsheads. Limited to 2,736 bottles, it is priced at €300 (US$349).

The three expressions are available for purchase globally at exclusive retailers and at The Glenlivet’s home in Speyside, Scotland.

Last year, new releases from the single malt brand included the 56-year-old Eternal Collection whisky, the Cask Master’s range for global travel retail and the first in its Beyond Speyside series, a Jamaican rum cask-finished whisky.
